I finished this painting this morning. I don’t think I over-worked it…that’s always the fear. Let me know what you think.

I love this painting. As someone who lives in the south (Dallas), and sees little snow, this painting evokes the exact feel of standing in a snowy forest. The blue seems a little too warm, but I like that, since most of my snow memories were made in Santa Fe, NM.

Thanks, Robin. Getting the color of the snow was a real challenge in that I wanted a clear separation of snow color from sky color. That’s why I leaned the sky color blue-green (even though it was much more blue) and the snow color towards blue-violet. Color separation is something I learned from Camille Przwodeck, one of my mentors. It’s turned out to be an incredibly valuable lesson–at least it meets the demands of my style for expressive color.

Ed, your work is a welcome discovery. I especially appreciate your generous demonstrations. I learn from the picture of your pallette. Evidently you choose to use as much ‘pure’ color as possible as opposed to mixing white which appears to make your color work strong. I too admire Berberian and hope to meet him someday. I’m familiar with a Howard Terpening’s work, any connection?

I am of course familiar with Howard Terpening’s work–some people get us confused, but other than the same last name, no clear connection! He’s an amazing painter, so of course it’s nice that people think we may be related (to my knowledge, we’re not).
