Colorado Drama
This painting is based on a study and photograph I took at the Estes Park Plein Air event. It was a particularly difficult day because the weather was not cooperating, to say the least: thunder storms followed by clouds. Once in a while, the light would find it’s way to ground to create a wonderful glow. This is one of those “glow” moments. I captured some of this in my plein air study and the camera did a good job too. Using both, I painted this one. Not sure if it’s done. Let me know what you think.

Well… I am not the one to decide, but I think it is finished. When looking at the painting on your site -making a frame around it with my hands… I can clearly see the glow. Ofcourse the effect will be stronger if you make the sky even darker, but that is probably not what you are looking for.
Very nice colouring Ed… especially on the rock.

Hello Ed
I would say not finished - does the concept really work?
Making the sky, as already mentioned, darker, would certainly increase the drama and glow. If it was my painting I would reinforce the little mountain behind in the middle as the center of interest first by removing the clouds and make the color of the sky more greyish cold purple in general and the clouds desaturated varm reddish.

I really like this painting but would agree with the comment above - I would remove the clouds to make the action focus on the highlighted mountains.

Leave it be, I think this one belongs in the top three.
