Estes Park Plein Air, Day 7, AM
Another gloomy, gray day this morning. Oh well. I decided to go out anyway and find something to paint, not expecting anything. I ended up doing one of the best of this week (I think)! I swaped out “Moraine Park Sunset” from the competition, as judges generally like larger works. I still think it’s one of my strongest, but I have to “play the game”. Moraine Park Sunset will still hang in the gallery, it just won’t be considered by the judges. Click here to see the final selections for the show.
Gray days really can be beautiful. This painting got me away from color and back to tonalism, but hey, that’s what was called for.

My last big challenge is the “Quick Draw” tomorrow morning. I’ll have 90 minutes to create a painting for judges and then auction directly afterward. No pressure
Here’s today’s set up:

Nice to see the set-up as well as the painting. Good luck with the quick draw. McGraw!
