Hillside Light
I worked on this paintings a couple of days, again trying to implement some of the ideas I learned in Ovanes Berberian’s workshop. Had fun with this one. In the end, I liked the sense of light, but wonder if I should simplify it? Is it too busy?

I don’t know Ed, it is very much a matter of style and taste I suppose. I don’t think it is too busy or could do with some simplifying. When the picture showed up on my monitor it started displaying the top and then slowly rolled down to show the rest of it. So I had time to notice how subtle the left tree is accentuated to form the main point of interest. Perhaps that influenced me in thinking that (in my eyes) perhaps there is a tad too much colour going on in the left lower corner, so that the impact of it is almost diminished by the amount of colour.
It is a paintig that seems to be very much alive because of your style. I think it suits the subject perfectly. Great movement in the trees and sky!

I don’t think it’s too busy, and I don’t think there’s too much color in the left hand corner. I think this is a very good painting. The only suggestion I might make would be to tone down the intensity of the skyholes in the middle of the painting - they are as bright as the sky outside the trees, and I think that is what is competing with the center of interest. You might put a little thin glaze of ultramine blue or some violet and see what you think - you could wipe it off if you didn’t like the effect - make that secondary area on the right of the painting go back some.

Hillside Light> It is not to busy, very nicely done painting…looks great. The balance is perfect, the colors are vivid…nice job.
